Cult of Luna

Somehow I never managed to do more hiking than I do climbing but today, I finally managed it. I went out to the Superstitions with Kyle Ham to check out the Cult of Luna line. First established by Jeff Weber, Phoenix old-school, the Cult of Luna is an actual volcanic roof (none of this inclined 45 degree overhang like Public Enemy). It has since then been repeated by Kyle and Jamie Leland, and I believe I got the 4th ascent today 2-3 years later. The approach provides quite the view but is also a bit heinous. To get to the area, one needs to hike 3.1 miles one way on the Bluff Springs Trail with a bit of bushwhacking but to a roof dweller, it is worth it. Thank you Kyle for being willing to show me this climb.

The climb itself is quite good. It starts off on a nice undercling feature which reminds me of Hueco Tanks, and then proceeds to move through a series of sharp crimps and huecos using a variety of roof footwork techniques. It's a good reminder for me when I get back to the limestone roof projects.

This climb makes me wonder what other kind of gold the Superstitions has, and I hope there are some bigger and better roof monsters out there. The search continues...
